Planning your itinerary
I generally have some idea of the main attractions I'd like to see when choosing my destination. But to get a more expansive list of things, I google “top things” to do in “X” city. Again, similar to my first article “Traveler Beware”, you should use these lists of “top things” as a helpful guide, not the holy grail. If you only have time to see two attractions, don’t feel pressured to see numbers “1 and 2” when numbers “5 and 9” are what really interest you most. Be your own compass.
I also like “Viator”. You can find your typical group and private tours to popular attractions. But what I enjoy more is that you can also find specifically curated tours that give you more of a local dive into the culture and community on a smaller scale. Like a tour of a Brazilian favela by a local resident in Rio de Janeiro.
