Why here
April 2018, a fellow friend and I decided to check out the Mile High 420 festival
We rented an Airbnb in the city on the outskirts of downtown and ubered around the town.
The first night we headed to Williams and Graham Speakeasy bar without reservations. We put our name on the list and then ventured around the neighborhood as we waited. We checked out a nearby dispensary and then wandered into Senor Bear to grab a quick bite. The food, margaritas, and atmosphere were so lovely that when the speakeasy finally did text us to come back but we decided to cancel our spot and stayed at the restaurant. I'm glad we did because the churros were quite possibly the best I've ever had.
FYI- I'd recommend making reservations in advance for Williams & Graham if you want to check this place out, it seems like a beautiful cool spot
The following day we headed towards the capital building, near where the festival was stationed. The fee was free; it just required a reservation in advance at their online website to get tickets.
We got there early, so we decided to go find a nearby dispensary (no actual "product" is sold inside the festival, only paraphernalia). This was not an original idea we soon found because all the closest dispensaries had lines down the block. My friends decided to wait in one, and I chose to go to a nearby restaurant to have drinks and wait for them.
About an hour later, they finally joined me, and we grabbed lunch and then headed back to the festival. By this time, the festival was packed, and there was now a long line to enter. Once we finally got in, the rain that had been intermittent was now fairly steady. We had our ponchos ready, but with the very chilly temps, the rain made it feel much colder. We kept warm in the crowd as we listened to Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Lil Jon perform from the megatron.
That night, likely jonesing for more churros, we headed back to Senor Bear.
The next day we grabbed lunch at Monkey Barrel, a casually funky restaurant with 90s themed video games and music artwork.
Later we checked out Avanti Food and Beverage, a bar attached to a food hall with seating options indoors as well as outdoors or on their rooftop deck
On our last day, I had a later flight and thus would be the last one to depart the city. When looking for things to do, I saw that the Chicago Cubs were in town, so I bought last minute tickets and headed to Coors Field. Turns out there are a lot, like really a lot of cubs fans in Denver. At times it felt like I was at Wrigley Field in Chicago. Thankfully the Cubs took home the W, and I headed back to the Chi as well.
General Tips
Get your "product" at a dispensary outside of downtown if you wait until the day of or get it in advance
Dress warm, it's usually still cold in April
